In the margins of the international Justice Leaders’ Forum in Riga on 14 July, Minister of Justice and Public Administration Ivan Malenica held a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian Minister of Justice Denys Maliuska.

The ministers discussed judicial co-operation between Ukraine and Croatia, sanctions against Russia, confiscation of property, investigations and prosecution of war crimes related to Russian aggression on Ukrainian territory.

In April, the Government of Croatia, a State Party to the Rome Statute, adopted a Decision on State Party Referral for the purpose of requesting the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court to open an investigation into the situation in Ukraine. It requested an investigation into all situations in Ukraine since 2013 in which there is a suspicion of serious crimes against humanity and war crimes.

43 States Parties to the Rome Statute have referred the situation in Ukraine to the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.

Minister Malenica stressed Croatia’s readiness to share its experience in conducting war crimes investigations.
