22 February marks the European Day for Victims of Crime, which is aimed at raising public awareness of the rights of victims of crime.

On this occasion, the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration, the Ministry of the Interior and the Victim and Witness Support Service Croatia signed an Agreement on cooperation in implementing a pilot project for establishing a referral system to Victim and Witness Support Service Croatia / National Call Centre for Victims of Crimes and Misdemeanours 116 006.

The signing of the Agreement marked the launch of the pilot project aimed to provide more systematic support to victims of crime.  After a crime is reported to the police, the victim will be contacted, subject to their consent, by the staff of the National Call Centre for Victims of Crimes and Misdemeanours 116 006.

The implementation of this pilot project will enable the provision of necessary support and assistance to victims of crime from the very moment of reporting the crime to the police.

The pilot project for improving the victim support system will be implemented during 2022 in cooperation with the Koprivnica-Križevci Police Department and the Zagreb Police Department, VII. Zagreb Police Station.

The results and knowledge gained from the activities carried out during the pilot project will form the basis for further plans for developing the victim referral system, in order to ensure timely assistance and support to victims of crime.
