CEP General Assembly and conference "Human Rights and Ethics in Probation" held in Dubrovnik

The General Assembly of the Confederation of European Probation (CEP) and a conference on "Human Rights and Ethics in Probation" were held on 18-20 October in Srebreno, Dubrovnik, jointly organized by the CEP and the Probation Sector of the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration.

Delegates from almost all CEP member countries gathered at the General Assembly to discuss CEP's past and future activities, elect a new President, Vice-President and members of the Governing Board, and to confirm Ms Jana Špero as the new Secretary General.

The conference "Human Rights and Ethics in Probation" was opened by State Secretary at the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration Josip Salapić.

In his speech, State Secretary Salapić highlighted that the Croatian probation service respects high ethical standards and the human rights of probationers in its work.

A total of 110 participants from 35 different countries participated in several plenary sessions and workshops on different topics and exchanged experiences during breaks and social events.

Mr Goran Brkić, Head of the Probation Sector, participated on behalf of the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration in a round table discussion on the key challenges in the protection of human rights in probation.  

During the conference, the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration, Probation Sector signed a Cooperation Agreement between the Croatian and Lithuanian probation services, which defines the areas of future cooperation between the two services.
