On Tuesday, 4 July 2023, Minister of Justice and Public Administration Ivan Malenica met with Nathalie Berger, Director for Support to Member States Reforms of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Structural Reform Support (DG REFORM).

Minister Malenica and Director Berger discussed the successful cooperation so far on numerous technical assistance projects (TSI) of DG REFORM in the area of justice and public administration, such as: insolvency issues, e-Communication in the judiciary, use of new digital technologies, key registers in public administration, measuring the satisfaction of public service users and the introduction of the Barnahus model – a multidisciplinary and interagency Centre for Children Victims and Witnesses of Violence and Crime.

The meeting included a discussion of new projects and reform processes that would be eligible for support from the Technical Assistance Instrument, such as a further digitalisation of the judiciary using new technologies (AI) to predict the outcome of court proceedings, which would increase the efficiency of the judiciary and the level of trust in the system, and the possibility of inclusion in the flagship technical assistance project for 2023, the PACE programme – an initiative for exchange and cooperation in public administration, as well as the possibility of implementing new projects in the area of anti-corruption.
