The inspection commission completed the emergency inspection at the Lepoglava Penitentiary on the recorded case of suicide of prisoner H.K.

The inspection included taking the statements of officers from the Lepoglava Penitentiary who are involved in the implementation of individual prison sentence enforcement programmes as well as security tasks in the prison section where the prisoner was placed, checking video surveillance tapes of the prison section, and looking at records, formal notes and other available documentation related to the incident.

It was established that, at the time of the incident, a sufficient number of judicial police officers were deployed in accordance with the Daily Work Schedule, and that the prisoner was given medical assistance by an officer of the Lepoglava Penitentiary immediately upon discovery, that an ambulance was called, and the competent police station was informed and investigated the scene.

The emergency inspection did not find any violations of official duty. However, with a view to improving procedures for the purpose of preventing events of this kind in future, the Lepoglava Penitentiary was instructed to take measures to enhance the operating policy and procedures and to reorganize work processes within the penitentiary.
