2nd LEVEL MULTIPLIER CERTIFICATION CEREMONY - SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGIST

From 16 to 18 January 2024, under project activity - 2nd level multiplier certification (Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development Strategist) of the Erasmus+ KA210 project entitled “Strengthening personal accountability in the prison system for the sake of sustainable development” (“First IN - then OUT” for short), the Croatian project team paid an official visit of to the Prison Administration of the Republic of Slovenia (URSIKS) and the Cene Štupar (CILJ) Project Team in Ljubljana as well as to the Dob pri Mirni Prison (Slovenia).

During the visit, Director-General for the Prison System of the Republic of Slovenia Bojan Majcen and his closest associates hosted both project teams and presented the current situation in the Slovenian prison system.

The partners in this project that will work on the implementation of the principle of sustainable development in the existing operation of the prison system and individual educational processes in the prison systems of Slovenia and Croatia are Ljubljana Public Education Centre - Cene Štupar (CILJ) and the Zagreb Training Centre, with the Prison Administration of the Republic of Slovenia (URSIKS) as the associated partner.

The Erasmus+ project, funded fully by the European Union (100 %), started on 1 September 2023 and will run until 28 February 2025. The working title of the project is “First IN - then OUT”.

Members of both project teams participated in a workshop, where they exchanged good practices in the application of the principles of sustainable development with the aim of developing/drafting training programmes for employees in the prison system, and further steps were agreed for the implementation of project activities, specifically, the development of a questionnaire for a field survey on the application of the principle of sustainable development in the correctional facilities of both prison systems.

The long-term goal of the project is to establish international cooperation and partnership which will be the basis for the development of new programmes in line with the implemented principles of sustainable development.
As part of the implementation of the relevant project activity (international meetings), a tour of the Dob pri Mirni Prison (Zavod za prestajanje kazni zapora Dob pri Mirni) was organised on the third day of the official visit, where the members of project teams exchanged experiences and latest examples of good practice in sustainable development which are already in place in Slovenia’s largest correctional facility with Prison Director Zoran Remić.
