Training of trainers "Individual victim needs assessment"

From 16 to 18 May 2022, the Ministry of Justice and Administration hosted a training of trainers entitled "Individual victim needs assessment". 

The training was organised by the Ministry of Justice and Public Administration and the Victim and Witness Support Service with funds from the project "Improving the quality of the judiciary by strengthening the capacities of prison and probation system and victim and witness support system", co-financed by the European Union under the European Social Fund.The aim of the training was to introduce legal professionals and other experts within the victim and witness support system to the importance of conducting an individual assessment of victims and to provide them with tools for better understanding of the psychological consequences of violence for victims. 

The three-day training gave many experts the opportunity to share their knowledge and experience both in the field of law and from direct interaction with victims of crimes and misdemeanours. The training was divided into three separate categories, one day each, thus addressing the legal and the psychological aspect of conducting an individual assessment of the victim's needs and the international aspect, including examples of good practice.

The training was delivered by Prof. Dr. Elizabeta Ivičević Karas, full professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb, Ms Ljiljana Stipišić, Mr. Sc., judge of the High Criminal Court of the Republic of Croatia, Ms Marijana Senjak, psychologist and psychotherapist in the field of traumatic psychology, and Ms Aleksandra Ivanković, Deputy Director of Victim Support Europe.
